The Environment and Energy Division leads and coordinates environment and energy sustainability outcomes, is accountable for enforcing environmental laws, and responsible for upholding security and advocating for consumers on public utility concerns. The Division is responsible for both the environmental section and the public utility section of the community. The Division oversees prosecuting cases involving air, water, and land pollution, workplace hazards, among other cases, under the environmental area. Furthermore, it manages and is liable for electric competition and reliability, electric rates, natural gas, area codes, telecommunication competition and service, telecommunication rates, and quality, among other cases, under the public utility area.
The Environment and Energy Division is a component of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office – Public Interest Bureau, along with the Child Support Enforcement Division, the Major Actions Division, the Community Prosecutions Division, the Seniors and Persons with Disabilities Division, and the Consumer Fraud Division.
