Mortgage Fraud Investigations and Prosecutions Unit

The impact of the mortgage fraud crisis has affected individuals beyond the amount lost by financial institutions. It has stretched to affecting citizens adversely, such that homes are now sitting vacant for long periods of time. This occurrence then breeds hubs for criminal activities and targets for vandals, which negatively influences the quality of life within the zone of the affected properties.

Unfortunately, the state of Illinois ranks among the top states inundate with unscrupulous individuals offering various mortgage fraudulent schemes. In response to the high level of mortgage fraud occurring in the state, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez founded the Mortgage Fraud Investigations and Prosecution Unit – a program that aims to lead a targeted response to the intensifying levels of mortgage-related crime in the County.

The Mortgage Fraud Investigations and Prosecutions Unit has a mission to employ a preventive approach, which entails working closely with business entities and establishing collaborative effort with the community in order to develop proactive strategies that shall be effective for all. Prosecutors serving under the Unit are assigned to each of the Community Justice Centers – another initiative that has been made available to the public, once again, by State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez. Furthermore, these prosecutors are to serve and work with the individuals and organizations within the communities they are assigned to.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office – Mortgage Fraud Investigations and Prosecutions Unit is devoted, and with sharp focus, on handling complex prosecutions related to mortgage crimes. The Unit oversees long term investigations of cases, which often result in successful arrests of multiple accountable individuals and business entities.

Tips about suspicious activities, including potential vital information on fraudulent mortgage schemes within the County, are encouraged to be disclosed to the State’s Attorney’s Mortgage Fraud Investigations and Prosecutions Unit.
