Alvarez Appoints New Top Management Officials

Anita Alvarez Announces New Management Appointments

Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez announces new top management officials, including the appointment of a veteran prosecutor in the State’s Attorney’s Office as First Assistant State’s Attorney.

Shauna Boliker, a distinguished prosecutor of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for over 20 years, is named First Assistant State’s Attorney by State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez today. Sharing a similar career path of working their way up through the ranks of the office, First Assistant State’s Attorney Boliker and State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez will work hand-in-hand to serve the Cook County.

Prior to her appointment as First Assistant State’s Attorney, Shauna Boliker was Chief of the Criminal Prosecutions Bureau, handling hundreds of felony criminal cases and overseeing the largest criminal trial division in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. Furthermore, she held several leadership positions, where she was previously the Chief of the Traffic Division and the Chief of the Sex and Crimes Division.

As the Chief of the Sex and Crimes Division, Boliker supervised the prosecution of several sexual assault cases, including the prosecution of cases involving child pornography, sexual abuse by clergy, and internet solicitations. In this capacity, she was also able to assert and secure training for nurses to become Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (S.A.N.E. nurses), which helped victims and prosecutors in successful convictions in sex crime prosecutions. Moreover, she managed and supervised the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center – an all-inclusive, multi-disciplinary unit dedicated to the investigation of sexual abuse cases of children.

Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez affirms that “the heart and soul of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office will always be our service in seeking justice for the victims of violent crime and no one understands that call to service as well as Shauna Boliker.” She further commends Boliker, claiming, “Shauna will not only bring a wealth of experience to this role, but she will also bring great insight and compassion.”

First Assistant State’s Attorney Boliker once mentioned that with her over 20 years of service as a prosecutor in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, she was able to handle a wide variety of cases, with specialization in criminal cases and sexual assault prosecutions. This, she claims, helped her in developing the compassion needed to handle the complexity of cases she is still to tackle.

Shauna Boliker remains active in her service in the law school community as an Adjunct Professor at the John Marshall Law School. She also remains an active member of several bar associations and community organizations, including being a member of the Misericordia Junior Board, and a volunteer of the Boy Scouts and the St. Francis Xavier Warde School.

As the newly appointed First Assistant State’s Attorney of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Shauna Boliker replaces Adrienne Mebane, who recently retired from the State’s Attorney’s Office, after over 20 years of service. Shauna Boliker is now responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of the State’s Attorney’s Office, with a focus on policy, budget, and management work.

Fabio Valentini, an established prosecutor at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, will step up to take over Shauna Boliker’s responsibilities as Chief of the Criminal Prosecutions Bureau. Valentini was previously the Supervisor of the Felony Review Unit, handling the State’s Attorney’s Office’s felony cases and criminal charges, which came from law enforcement officials in Cook County. He was responsible for overseeing the review and approval of all the aforementioned cases. Valentini has been serving the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for the last seven years, from 1991, and will continue to serve the office as the new Chief of the Criminal Prosecutions Bureau.
