Thomas L. Kirsch II
Thomas L. Kirsch II is the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana for the U.S. Department of Justice. He is an American lawyer.
Attorney Kirsch was nominated by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, in July 2017. The United States Senate approved his nomination on October 6, 2017. He swore in as the chief federal law enforcement officer of the Northern District of Indiana on October 10, 2017. The post was earlier held by David A. Capp.

Primary Duties
As the U.S. Attorney, Mr. Kirsch is serving his four-year term as the principal litigator for the Northern District of Indiana, which has three main divisions, Appellate, Civil, and Criminal divisions. It has 32 counties in which the Fort Wayne Division includes counties Adams, Allen, Jay, Noble, and Wells counties. The Hammond Division has Lake County and Porter County. The Lafayette Division has the Benton, Warren, Newton, and four other counties. South Bend has 11 counties, including Miami, LaPorte, and Fulton.
The office, which has four regional offices, looks after the prosecution of federal felonies like terrorism, robberies, public corruption, homicides, narcotics, cybercrime, and fraud in the district. Mr. Kirsch is the chief federal law enforcement officer and defends civil cases and the tax affairs of the Government.
Law Career and Private Practice
Thomas Kirsch, after earning his Juris Doctor Degree, served as a Law Clerk in the Southern District of Indiana for Judge John Daniel Tinder.
Prior to getting appointed as the U.S. Attorney, he was engaged as a partner in Winston & Strawn LLP, a Chicago-based law firm. He primarily practiced corporate investigations and intricate litigation. He was a litigator and investigator for several cases in the trial and appellate courts. He is the American College of Trial Lawyers’ Fellow.

U.S. Attorney Kirsch was appointed as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana in 2001. He served the post till 2008. His key cases included extortion, wire fraud, money laundering, racketeering, obstruction of justice, narcotics, tax and bank frauds, and perjury. As part of his white-collar investigations, Mr. Kirsch prosecuted many elected and chosen public officials.
He was for one year, the Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General at the United States DOJ, Office of Legal Policy in Washington, D.C. In his work span in Washington, D.C., he helped in the development of legislative and policy suggestions in corporate crime, violent crime, and counter-terrorism.
Education
Thomas L. Kirsch II joined Indiana University for his undergraduate degree. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science in the year 1996. Mr. Kirsch earned his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in the year 1999.
Awards
Thomas L. Kirsch II is the recipient of several awards both locally and nationwide. He has been honored with the Department of Justice Director’s Award for Superior Performance. He was given awards by The American Lawyer and Law360. Mr. Kirsch has received awards from The National Law Journal and Benchmark Litigation.
